LE SSERAFIM “DIFFERENT” JAPANESE SINGLE FIRST IMPRESSION
WARNING: IF YOU DO NOT LIKE SPIDERS THIS WILL BE AN INCREDIBLY TOUGH WATCH
Le Sserafim is back this summer with a brand new Japanese single. The song runs at a measly duration of 2 minutes and 21 seconds, but “Different” has all the makings of an incredible summer track. With a catchy chorus and a deep bass line, this is the exact kind of song you wanna hear with the windows down on a nice day. It may have been beneficial for this song to be extended by another minute, but the replay value for this track is extremely high considering the fact that you can listen to it so many times within quick succession. Creatively, I don’t think there was a massive attempt to do anything different with this song. In that regard, it’s quite safe.
LINE DISTRIBUTION PER MEMBER:
YUNJIN: 33 SECONDS
CHAEWON: 27 SECONDS
KAZUHA: 24 SECONDS
EUNCHAE: 11 SECONDS
SAKURA: 10 SECONDS
I would’ve really loved to see Sakura with more time on this track than what she was given. On a Japanese single, you would think one of the Japanese members might have a bigger role in it. Kazuha’s vocals continue to improve and that is becoming increasingly apparent with each project. Chaewon’s inflection matches the upbeat tone of this song perfectly and it adds such a terrific garnish to the ensemble. As a Yunjin bias, I am naturally ecstatic to see her with such a large portion of time. Eunchae has an incredibly distinct vocal tone. Even with the time or lack thereof that she had on this song, you can feel it in a big way. This is a pattern I have noticed with a lot of their recent releases.
Regarding the music video, I think fun is the best way to describe the visuals. The consistent usage of the hairy spider gave me the heebiejeebies. They’ve got some really well put together outfits for this and my personal favorite was the lavender sweatsuits the group used. Yunjin’s role in active dance movement was extremely limited and this can most likely be accredited to the fact that she has been dealing with back pain that had left her unable to participate in group activities.
Overall, I think this is a solid single. It’s not anything spectacular by any means but I think it’s a nice buffer between major projects.
